Pacing
In storytelling, pacing is a method for keeping the attention of the listener.
If the listener is not regularly entertained or surprised by events in the story, they will lose patience and direct their attention somewhere else. However, too many surprising or entertaining events is exhausting, and should be mediated with something else. For example, exposure.
A story that can keep the listener entertained while not exhausting them is said to have "good pacing".
